Today we were able to meet my hubby for a quick lunch in front of the hospital, V gets so excited to see her daddy! It maketh my heart to be quite glad :) She starts waving her arms and laughing as soon as she sees him coming, ah pure happiness.
Fall is coming! The crickets have invaded our downstairs bathroom once again! They show up every year shortly before fall, and they get me all excited! (As long as they don't come out of the bathroom.) By the way, there must be a goodly sized hole somewhere, in order for them to get in. Anyways, I love fall (and the beginning of winter)! September 23rd through February 14th, is my favorite time of year! Can't wait to break out my Josh Groban Noel CD in just 2 weeks! V and I will put some fall decorations around, and burn some apple and spice smelling candles! Woohoo!
V is 9 months old (yesterday)! She has started doing so many exciting little things, she's been clapping for a while now, but lately if I just ask her to clap, she will! It's so exciting to see her learning the meaning of words. Not just copy me when I'm clapping, but know what the word "clap" means. This must all sound so silly, but it gets me pretty excited! Feeding her nowadays is so much fun too! She's eating all sorts of thins, blueberries, cottage cheese, peas, mango, lasagna, really! She gets a little of whatever we're eating, and mealtime is a blast! For breakfast every morning she has oatmeal, yogurt, and some kind of fruit. Yay for somewhat of a routine! (I LOVE routines.)
Any day now I'm going to go into her room to get her from a nap, and she'll be standing in her crib. Ah I want it all to slow down for a moment! Each stage has been just a little bit better than the last, I never would have thought that was possible! She follows me around the house, babbles to her toys, laughs at my silly faces, loves the song "Los pollitos dicen", ah and so many other cute things! It's an overwhelming feeling to look at her sometimes, and think, "did I really give birth to you 9 months ago?" This 100% complete human being, who relies on me ever so slightly less each day... is so much more amazing than I ever would have thought! My husband and I both wonder what we thought was cool before we had her, raising V has been more wonderful and fulfilling than either one of us could have imagined. Every day we're both more thankful for her.
*Sniffle.
OK I'm all done now.
Hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend!

So apparently political survey people have my cell phone number. That's OK! I've enjoyed answering those calls since I was far to young to vote. I remember once while Bush was president, lying to the lady (about my age) and then telling her how highly I thought of our government at the time! Well anyways, I was very happy to tell this lady that yes indeed ma'am I sure did vote in the 2008 election! But she hung up on me about 5 minutes into the survey after I gave the President a 2 out of 100... so does that mean my opinion won't be counted? So not fair! I'm very disappointed.
Tonight we ate the most fantabulous barbecue pork sandwiches. I used a recipe from my friend Victoria again, and they were so phenom!
V has been working on her 4th tooth now for some time. Unfortunately this is the meanest tooth yet! Within the next few days (my guess is, tomorrow) she'll have her two middle bottom teeth, and her two top outer incisors! Her little smile is too cute. I was telling a friend how her front top teeth aren't showing up, but the ones on the sides are, she informed me that she's never seen that before! Well I'm told mine came in that way, and I'm quite happy that V takes after me in some ways :)
In the last week V has started giving High Fives, clapping, and my favorite, saying "hi!". She says it all the time now! Sometimes I'll watch her playing, and she'll pick up a toy, look it in the face and say "hi!" then clap for herself!
Oh my word I just love her so much.
I also love that we're going to visit my side of the family for Thanksgiving! We're so thankful that they live near one of the 5 cities that Hubby can take this one incredibly expensive exam in, that just happens to be on the day before Thanksgiving! V will be just a couple of weeks short of 1 year old, and it will be such a fun time! My sister is even planning to have a small early birthday party for her while we're there!
I am SO excited. My family is great! Now if only we lived closer...
and so we wait for interviews! Hopefully we'll get some near to where our family lives! Even a 7 hour drive would be welcome! That covers a lot of different programs, our family is quite spread out! With my luck, we'll end up on the west coast, just to spread it out a little more.
So this is where the Trusting God comes in handy. I know His plan for us is good. It's pretty clear He wanted us where we are now, and has even shown us in some ways why! In the words of a dear old friend, (OK, so maybe radio drama character would be a better term for him, but he was an integral part of the soundtrack to my childhood!) named Mr. Whitaker,
"The best is yet to come!"

Most terrifying mom-moment yet
V tried to give me a heart attack/fall down the stairs yesterday.
We were at a friend's house who have a nice set of stairs going up into the loft/playroom area, (which is were we play all the time) and V's never been interested in stairs before. I always sit in between the toys and stairs though, just in case. Well I turned for about 5 seconds to put a toy away, and when I looked back, she was right on the edge, with one hand reaching down. I DOVE for her foot, and just missed it as she toppled head over heals over the edge. It seemed to happen in slow motion, she looked like a rag doll flopping down the stairs. I remember so many things I thought in the few seconds while it was happening, "This is all my fault!", "she will break her neck!", "I can't believe I didn't see her!", "her head could crack on the tile at the bottom of the stairs!", and, "I'm the worst mother ever!". As I'm trying to come up with the best way to catch her, (do I jump to the bottom? What if I land on her? Do I slide down on my stomach? Run down the side screaming? -the latter being my choice,) she stops. She landed length-wise on her back, only 4 steps down. I feel like it's safe to say, that it was a God-thing. The step was barely wider than she was.
I am so thankful that we serve a God Who watches. Can't you just picture an invisible guardian angel standing on the stairs, waiting to catch her? The Lord can protect her so much better than I can. These are the things for me to remember at night when I can't sleep without checking on her "just one more time"! She is safer anywhere (the deepest darkest jungles of Africa) in the Lord's hands, than anywhere (my friend's suburban upper middle-class home) in mine. This is a lesson for me to learn now, or at least before she starts driving.
The night before the stairs incident I woke from two different dreams, thinking she'd fallen off our bed. Both times I had to go and make sure she was still in her crib. Last night Hubby said she could sleep with us (I was still rather shaken up thinking of all the "could-have" endings from that morning's adventure), but I was too scared she'd crawl over the edge while I was asleep. This was the first time I haven't brought her to our room when given the option! Maybe I will start sleeping through the night soon after all.

The nicest furniture we own
is baby furniture! Well actually the cherry four-poster king-sized bed my father-in-law made us is the nicest, but as far as store bought goes... definitely V's crib and high chair!! Oh my word her high chair is amazing! Thanks to a very generous aunt, (Thank you!!) V is now sitting at the table instead of on the table. I've been looking forward to this day for a while now! It felt like Christmas waiting for the chair to arrive and I was just like a giddy little kid putting it together, it was so exciting! V loves it. she sits right at the table (there is no tray) and pats the table while she mashes her food between her almost toothless gums. SO fun. We bought the chair on Amazon and saved about $50. That's a lot to save! It was quite expensive, but my aunt had given us money waaaaay back when, to use for this, and even though the chair is not quite 24 hours old, I'd say it is most definitely worth the money! We read reviews for MONTHS trying to chose a high chair. I like this chair so much, I'd even consider buying a few more to have around the kitchen table for adults! The baby seat is removable, and the seat and foot rest are completely adjustable so it can "grow" with her. I've even heard of kids taking the chair with them to college! I hope she gets so attached to it :)
So what is the name of this phenomenal new centerpiece in our home? It's a Stokke Tripp Trapp with baby set, in RED and I recommend it %100. Tell your friends!
Now if we could only decide on a stroller!

Baby proofing
begins today! Well OK it doesn't really begin today, I've been baby proofing a little bit at a time as things come up that need to be "proofed". But today we are getting a couple baby gates! We are going to borrow some from a friend, V and I are going to go and pick them up after her morning nap is over. Yay! Thanks friend. This is such a great town to have a baby in! EVERYONE is So So helpful. And generous!
We also ordered a high chair this morning! Thanks to one of my very generous Aunts, V is getting quite the snazzy chair! Hopefully it will last her through college. Thanks Aunt Jo! I'm so excited for V to sit at the table instead of on it. Which means, the Bumbo can be put away (actually we'll be loaning it to a new little friend of ours) and we can give the exersaucer back to the friends who loaned it to us! Usually V plays in it while I'm cooking (it's in the kitchen) but now I can put her high chair at the kitchen table, and she can play there instead! Speaking of the kitchen, I'm thinking we need rugs in there now, since there's just no keeping her off of the tile. She gets a new bump every day! But she is quickly learning to keep her balance, and is so much more steady than she was even a few days ago. They change SO fast. She's started signing "milk". She's made the sign before, but I'm pretty sure it didn't used to count :). Now she'll sign it back to me while she's drinking, and I think she means it!
So all of the residency programs can view Hubby's application, in my last post I eluded to being slightly worried about the whole getting interview thing.... well I'm really not worried.
Today is "Brag About Your Spouse Day"!
I took a glance at his application, the section that listed research and what not. Ummm... that page on his application is ridic! How did he manage to get so much accomplished, and still be around so much? I know he never does anything school related on Sundays. We get him all day! He does have a 6 day work week, but most of that time he's in the hospital working. So at his medical school, it's required that you submit a paper to be published, in order to graduate. It doesn't even have to be published. And most schools don't even require that! Well let's just say, he has gone way beyond the minimum.
I'm so excited to find out where we'll be going!
Hmm, somebody is peaking at me through the slats in her crib. So I guess naptime is over! Off to get those baby gates and pick up some cereal for Hubby :) (V and I love shopping at Trader Joe's, but I'm sorry, their cereal stinks. So we'll be making a little trip to Target during our errands today.)
Feel free to do a little bragging about your spouse in the comments!

I will never
have baby toys all over the house, co-sleep, formula feed, sit in the back seat with V instead of up front with Hubby, *sigh. You name any one of my "Nevers" and I'll tell you "Just kidding!" Because I've broken all of my rules!
This morning was spent rearranging the entire downstairs, to make the floor more feng shui or whatever for V's new mobility. She fell and cut her chin today! I was literally watching her crawl towards a cabinet (which used to be on the tile floor) thinking to myself, "I ought to change her out of that dress before she tr..." when a SMACK interrupted the conversation I was having with myself. IT WAS TOTALLY MY FAULT!! OK so maybe not totally, but I do feel as if I could have prevented it! So now the carpet downstairs has been maximized and the tile minimized. Anything that she might think about pulling up on, or that might even tempt her to travel onto the tile, has been moved or removed.
And there are baby toys all over the house.
But they are organized!
Baskets and trunks make me feel a little bit better about the Toys 'r Us throw up that's all over our living room.
Alright, so today is Friday! Oh what a wonderful day! It's also Hubby's last day in his favorite rotation. (Oh, and have I mentioned that his residency applications are out? Ah! Now we just sit back and wor...wait for those interview invites!) The house is all spick and span, laundry put away, floors cleaned, homemade cinnamon buns baked, (I got the recipe from my friend Victoria's blog! They're phenom!) And V and I rented 3 old movies! One for each night this weekend. Poor V is always in bed by the time Hubby and I get to start them, but I don't think she minds too much. As long as she gets to watch "Baby Signing Time" every once in a while. Oh that's another never! I will never prop my daughter in front of the TV while I cook dinner... Hahaha! Ahh... that's funny. Well anyways, the movies we rented are "Anastasia" with Yul Brynner, "A Patch of Blue" with Sidney Poitier, and 'The Nun's Story" with Audrey Hepburn. So excited!
Oh and that whole sleep-trainging-myself-thing hasn't worked yet, but we'll see! It's only been a few days and I think it usually takes a week with babies? So maybe it'll take longer for an adult...

Wash day...
is every day! I do a load almost every day (for instance, yesterday I did not do a load, so today I'm doing two). Every other load is a diaper load. Have a mentioned that I love using cloth diapers?! My favorites are definitely BumGenius one-size 4.0s. They are so cute and so easy! I like to save them for when we're out, (they're also the only ones my hubby will use!) We use the Flip diaper system or the old-school classic Gerber prefolds/pins/plastic pants for at home. Someday I'm going to try Envibum, I love all of organizations that they support! We'll be ordering a couple of their Mom4Mom covers soon, so I'll write about those after we try them out.
Our Thursday Bible study starts back up tonight! We are really looking forward to it this year, and are committed to going every single Thursday that we possibly can. Last year was hard, as Hubby was on-call a lot, or working late hours. I went for a while in the fall before V was born, but then it got tricky to go with her and with-out Hubby. But this year we all have a great schedule, and it will be SO good for us to go as a family! Oh, and THEY SERVE A FREE HOME-COOKED MEAL! Different families from the church that supports this non-denominational study take turns bringing dinner, and let me tell you, it is a wonderful service for which I'm very thankful! It's been so nice getting to know other Christians in this tight-knit medical community.
Man, I am just getting so excited for fall! It's been cool enough the past couple days to have our windows open, and it is just lovely. September 23rd-Januaryish is my favorite time of year, ahhh Josh Groban's Noel will be our daily (yes, starting in September) background music. Yummy Christmassy smelling candles, baking every day, I can't wait! V and I are feeling very blessed to get to watch a sweet little boy in our home two days a week Oct-Dec, it will be so much fun taking care of the two little ones!
Well while V is still napping, I think I'm going to get some baking done.
Have a great Thursday!

Well, she's 8 months old today!
We've had quite the exciting week since my last (err... only) post. V's crawling now! She's also still teething, and still quite happy! Sometimes I worry about her... she is just so content. Too content maybe? 14 hours in a car seat? With no end in sight? Still happy!! Why don't you get angry sometimes??!?! I would be so fussy right now if I were you!!! I'm pretty sure I should be learning something from her about dealing properly with my attitude.
Of course she's probably thinking about doing a 180 because they really like to make liars out of us.
I was pretty excited about actually getting to blog, (there were so many things I wanted to write about! Obviously I've forgotten what they were.) So of course that night after my first post, hubby's computer decided to die. And it may or may not have been due to V putting the charger into her mouth, while it was plugged into the wall. Could that have shorted the battery? I mean, when I plugged it back into the computer? Anyways, V didn't seem any worse for wear (Thank the Lord!) and now I do a better job of keeping the plug away from her. It's a learning process.
I'm tired. V's been sleeping through the night for... how long? I honestly don't remember when she started "for real" sleeping through the night. She was sleeping 8 hours (8-4) from 6 weeks on. But I consider her to really sstn at 10 hours or more. (I'm pretty sure this post could give someone unrealistic expectations about such things...) Anways, all this to say, I have sstn a whopping ONE time since the week before she was born. I know, right? She may as well wake up 5 times a night, because that's how often I do! They say with babies, to stop feeding them when they wake up at night (once they're old enough, and eating enough during the day of course!) and they'll stop waking up to be fed. So I'm trying that with me. No, I don't get a snack every 1.5 hours all night, but I do however get up to check on V. Am I an anxious first time mom? Yes, thanks for asking. So lately I've only gotten up to check on her if I can't hear her breathing on the monitor (which thankfully isn't very often, she snores). I'm hoping that if I stop "feeding my need to wake up" then I'll stop waking up.
I'll let you know how it goes.

My baby is almost 8 months old.
Which means, she's been here for as much time as I spent waiting for her to get here. Unbelievable! Why have these 8 months gone 3x faster than the other 8 months? It seems like nowadays, someone just has to ask something like, "Has she started sitting up unassisted?" and I'll say "No! Why, she hasn't even thought about it." Then what will she do, the very next day? This is all going by too fast.
OK, enough sappiness.
I guess I'll share a little bit about what is happening around the house these days.
Hubby is in the middle of his favorite rotation! So that's been fun. He's also been home for dinner almost every single night! Which makes this one of my favorite rotations, too. :) During his free time, he's been finishing up his residency application, which can be submitted any day now! Boy, this stage of his career/education is going so fast, too! This fall he'll be interviewing? What's up with that? Then someday in January 2012 he'll get an email that says "you've matched!" (At least, it better say that!) The next day he'll open a letter, telling us where to report for 3 years, starting summer of 2013. Then in March of '12 he'll open another letter, telling us where to report for 1 year, starting in June! So exciting.
V has 2 teeth, LOVES her maraca, and is minutes away from crawling. (I am in NO hurry for that to start! I enjoy being able to pick her up only feet away from where I set her down!)
Oh, and she's also started giving kisses when asked! It is too funny. She'll kiss mommy or daddy, or a stuffed animal if you hold it in front of her face and ask her. LOVE!
I still like cloth diapering.
Guess that's all for now!
